Magic of Reading and Writing

Many children with disabilities, regardless of their diagnoses, encounter literacy difficulties that can prove devastating. The Magic of Reading and Writing program is for children in grades K-3. The programs are designed for children who have been classified with disabilities or identified as high risk for reading and/or writing difficulties. The classes boast a positive environment for children to read confidently with teachers and mentors as coaches. Reading strategies will be emphasized according to student's current reading abilities as follows: a) reading strategies-word attack, b) basic comprehension - locating information in text, c) fluency in oral reading, d) drawing conclusions, e) making connections to text, and producing oral and written responses to questions. The program meets twice a week during the school year and provides summer literacy camps as well. For questions about this program, email themagicofreading@yahoo.com
