Program Overview

Pathways recognizes that acceptance of children with disabilities or those in need of extra help will not happen without an investment in the children of today and a solid plan that will continue to build that foundation into future generations. Consequently, Pathways has also developed a mentor program where all children are given the opportunity to work directly with the children having special needs and/or other children who may need extra help, beginning at the age of 8. All children, with or without disabilities, can train to become mentors. Instead of a traditional top-down mentor approach where one child is responsible for another, Pathways created a horizontal approach where both children teach and learn from one another. Pathways offers youth many opportunities for growth through mentoring, employment, internships, and leadership training programs. For example, one young adult approached Pathways with her strengths as an artist. She became employed as an intern with Pathways and helped create much of our "Include ME!" marketing campaign for 2011. If you are interested in any of these opportunities or have ideas about how your strengths can promote possibilities within Pathways, please email mentor4pathways@yahoo.com.
